What a review covers

We welcome review offers from reptile veterinarians and people with verifiable, relevant species experience. The editor checks background and agrees a scope before assigning a review. Relevant husbandry experience and veterinary qualifications are described separately.

  1. Identity and scope. Confirm the scientific identity, locality or subspecies where relevant, life stage and adult size. Identify which animals a group introduction cannot cover.
  2. Space and usable structure. Review adult internal dimensions, climbing or digging opportunities, water volume, access and safe servicing. Mark individual assessments explicitly.
  3. Heating, light and moisture. State whether each target describes air, surface or animal-level exposure, and the measurement location. Keep thermal gradients, UV Index and humidity cycles distinct.
  4. Food and long-term care. Check life-stage feeding, nutrition and supplements against the cited protocol. Review water, hygiene, enrichment and long-term commitment without diagnosing an individual animal.
  5. Evidence and disagreements. Link the exact supporting publication or source page. Explain unresolved disagreements and suggest scoped wording instead of combining incompatible recommendations.
  6. Corrections and attribution. Return a section-by-section record with proposed corrections, the article date and your review scope. State credentials, conflicts and whether your name may be published.

What earns a review credit

The editor must receive the completed review, verify the reviewer’s identity and relevant background, resolve or disclose corrections, and obtain permission for attribution. The article then identifies the reviewer, review date, sections covered, article revision and any unresolved limits. Substantive later changes require another check of the affected sections.

“Veterinary review” requires a verified veterinary qualification and a completed review within that person’s scope. We do not use credentials or organization names to imply an endorsement.

What the build labels mean

Measured proposal
An authored layout with dimensions. The exact fitout has not been physically built or tested.
Construction documented
The original creator shows assembly or the finished enclosure. We state the source, animal and known limits.
Creator-reported measurements
The creator reports readings or a trial. We identify its duration and context where available; the results have not been independently reproduced here.
Long-term use documented
This label requires dated follow-ups, maintenance observations and animal-use evidence. A completed build alone does not qualify.
