Build the 82-by-48-inch lower and upper rings, with the 45-inch end rails between the long members. Add the six 33-inch uprights and square the frame with external plates. It must stand and remain square without touching the tank. Keep any ground restraints or anti-tip attachments outside wet fittings and approved for the actual base.

Provide two large service doors
Make two 38.5-by-32.75-inch front door frames, adding a middle rail to each. Install three hinges and two latches per door. Stops or gaskets close the working reveals according to the animal’s escape ability. Arrange the door nearest the drain so its lower hardware does not block a hose coupling, bucket or inspection view.

Build and support the split cover
Make the two 40.875-by-48-inch lid frames and fit their middle rails. Mount the fixed 45-inch support beneath the quarter-inch centre gap. Clamp mesh to each frame along its edges and middle rail, then add two hinges, two latches and a positive stay per lid. Keep the top free of stored equipment and accumulated rainwater.

Finish the splash-zone frame
Sand, coat and fully cure the timber away from the basin using a system approved for the substrate and exposure. Cover cut mesh edges and fastener points. Fit the guard infill without trapping hoses between frame and tank. Plastic splash panels, if chosen, need mechanical support and allowance for thermal movement; silicone is not a universal plastic adhesive.

Choose a compatible filter layout
Use the pump and filter manufacturers’ diagrams to establish permitted relative heights, intake depth, hose diameter and service clearance. A submersible pump feeding an accessible external pond filter may suit a shallow basin, but confirm the exact package. Do not copy an aquarium canister arrangement whose gravity feed requires a lower filter position than the site provides.

Protect intake and return fittings
Guard the intake against entrapment and substrate blockage. Secure the return against movement outside the vessel or onto the dry platform, and assess its current. Use approved connections and hose restraint, keeping every clamp accessible without moving the filled tank.

Arrange safe lighting and power
Mount lighting and any heater using their approved stands, guards and clearances. Keep water heaters inaccessible to direct animal contact where their instructions require protection. Have building electrical work completed professionally and use appropriate protected outlets, drip loops and intact cords. A UV-C water clarifier treats water within its prescribed circuit. It does not replace the separate reptile UVB lighting selected in the animal’s care plan.

Fill and inspect progressively
Add water in measured stages while the tank remains unoccupied. Check the complete perimeter, drain fitting and support between stages. Mark the working level clearly and retain freeboard for displacement and normal movement. Stop immediately for distortion, a shifting base or leakage; tightening an unrelated surrounding frame is never a repair for a vessel problem.

Test loss of power and blocked flow
Run the water circuit and disconnect power at its normal control to observe drain-back and siphoning. Restart exactly as instructed. Check the filter manufacturer’s prescribed blockage inspection method without deliberately running a pump dry or dead-heading it. Ensure overflow and hose failures have a managed route that cannot reach electrical connections or undermine the tank support.

Rehearse a full service
With no animal present, rehearse pump isolation, draining and platform removal. Move wet parts into a container without crossing electrical connections. Refit clamps, guards and latches, and record the equipment-specific restart sequence so valves return to their correct positions.

Complete animal-free commissioning
Establish biological filtration through a suitable aquatic-care procedure and test water chemistry rather than relying on appearance. Log water and dry-area temperatures through normal light cycles, then verify the chosen light exposure at the platform. Recheck the secure cover after the frame has experienced humidity. Introduce the turtle only when all installation and care checks are satisfied.
